The Healer is the most sensitive of all the Idealists to a negative environment. They notice problems in a work group before anyone else. After an addition to our house we had an area of gravel driveway that really felt like it would be better as yard. I could picture it covered in grass and making a useful area instead of gravel. Our cars didn't pull up as far to cover this area anymore after the remodeling and it just seemed as though it would make a nice buffer from our driveway and also give us a bit more usable area for the yard.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You'll Need

Instructions

The first thing we needed to do was remove the gravel that was on the area we wanted to convert. We used a rake for this. This was not your typical lawn grass rake, but one with solid metal teeth (not flexible) and they were closely spaced. We loaded the gravel into the wheelbarrow and carted it out into the driveway to spread out.
Keep excavating the gravel with the shovel until you've started to find "just soil" or until you've gone down two inches. If you're still finding gravel after two inches worth of scraping that's okay. Depending on your plans for the grassy area you may want to excavate further, but if all you want is grass to grow it's not necessary.
Go back over this area and fill it with topsoil. You want to fill it back up to the level that it was with gravel only this time you are filling it with soil. You can get soil from composted lives and yard clippings, if you like you can mix in ash from wood stoves or brush piles. Try to make it an even mix of soil though so that it has the same consistency. You may also use topsoil bought from a garden center or nursery.
Rake the topsoil smooth and be sure to remove any debris (twigs, leaves, clumps of any sort) so that you have a nice smooth seed bed.
Sow your grass seed and it's recommended to cover with pine needles or straw so that the seed doesn't wash off in a heavy watering or rain.
Gently water the area about 2 times a week until the grass starts to sprout and establish. If it's raining this often you may not need to water.

Tips & Warnings

Be sure to choose grass seed that suits the conditions of the area you're planting. Take into consideration whether it's a wet or dry area and the amount of sun it receives.
Spring or Fall are the best times to establish fresh grass seed. Avoid the heat of summer or the freezing temperatures of mid winter.
Some in our area like to spread grass seed on the first or last snow of the year. It can be easier to see where you have sown the seed and the snow gives it moisture to accelerate the sprouting. Also you're unlikely to have prolonged cold temperatures long enough to damage the grass sprouts if it's October/November or April/May.
Be careful not to overload the wheelbarrow and distribute the weight well.
Don't over exert. This is a project that you can do gradually over several months.

2 soap thermometers, one to measure the temperature of the oil and one to measure the temperture of the lye mixture.

3qt heat safe container for mixing lye
3qt Stainless steel pot or sauce pan for heating oils
Stainless Steel pot or large ceramic bowl or glass bowl, for combining the lye and oils together. The flat bottom on the pot will make it easier to stir then the bowl.
Heat safe silicone spatula
Plastic stirring spoon
Freezer paper or wax papper for linning your soap mold. Tape to secure it.
Electric hand mixer. (depending on the timing the hand mixer could be shared between each person, but this will make the process slower, if everyone has their own it will go faster. This is optional though)

Lessons Learned While Animating

Even simple animations that do not bother to put clothes on are offensive. Thus Leo's blue and black colored body shapes.
Kneecaps are useless and get in the way.
Animations walk in place and the background moves behind them.
Walking is quicker then you think.
Animations have overly large heads so you can better see the facial expressions.

Learning to Animate with Anime Studio

I am using Anime Studio Pro to learn to create animations. I have made three very simple videos.

Mixi Swirl is a very simple video with me getting use to the time line and how things move in the time line. The beginning effect of all the lines separating was created by copying and pasting and using the same shape over and over.

Rain Drops, again I copy and paste the same image over and over, but for some unknown reason each paste does not morph from the original like in mixi swirl. Again I am just playing with the timeline feature but being more deliberate in what the outcome is.

Leo is a man made from basic shapes. I placed the shapes over Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man (thus his name) to get the proportions just correct. My goal here was not to create a great looking character but to learn to make a convincing animation walk.

Here is the image of Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man that I used. Yes I did put in the leaf, my kids were watching me animate, I did not mean this video to be an anatomy lesson.

The background behind Leo is a wonderful old Disney image that shows how to animate different movements. Here is the image.

I find myself all a flutter with grand plans to improve my life. I could not sleep because of them When I got up to record my plans I decided to start with prayer. Almost as soon as I was kneeling down the inspiration came to me to focus on what I can do now, what I can do today. This is a wonderful idea since many of my plans can be for the perfect and grand, assuming I have all the tools and time I need. I like the idea of taking a more realistic approach. What can I do now? What can I do today.

I want to bring service back into my life by doing my Visiting Teaching and by visiting Ellen and Alma.
I want to be more healthy, by increasing my physical activity level and eating more healthy.
I want to help my kids have more social involvement with their friends.
I want to decrease the number of days we take off of school, so more learning happens faster.
I want to improve our meals that we are eating at home, with better menu planning.
I want to take more care of myself and remember to take time for my physical needs.
I want to work on the tee shirt project and see if that can bring in some more money.
I want to remember my scripture reading every day.

Biscuits for Biscuits and Gravy

I love this biscuit recipe... We have made it several times.. but then I lost it. I posted it to recipezaar but their new webpage wont work. I am posting it to my blog so I can find the darn thing again.

Take 2 C of whole wheat flour and add
2 Tbsp Sugar (or not, I just like sugar in mine)
2 Tbsp Baking powder
1 tsp Salt
Stir together and make a well for the liquid
about 1/2 C Oil (or use hard margarine...I am just to lazy to cut it all in)
about 1 C water (you may have to add more if it is still pretty thick)
Stir it all together until it all forms a nice soft ball. Place huge balls of it on your stone (or greased baking sheet if you don't have one) and bake for about 20 min at 375 F until lightly browned.

Four Poults Disappeared

My great little Broad Breasted Turkey, in spite of all doubts, was able to sit an amazingly large batch of eggs. Twelve turkey eggs and two adopted chicken eggs. Broad Breasted Turkeys are suppose to be very prone to crushing eggs from their size. One egg did end up being crushed but we think that may have been caused by a kid going in her coop. We gave her one of the Papa turkeys eggs in replacement. So after more then 28 days of sitting 14 eggs, with none of them crushed, this is what we have found so far.

Yesterday when giving her food and water we found two empty clean egg shells. The shells being clean inside is very significant. That means that the birds that hatched out were properly mature, if they were not their would have been egg goo surrounding the birds and in the shells. Anxious to investigate further, I did go ahead and shoo Mama turkey off her nest, something I don't like to do. What we found was very disappointing. No poults, and she was down four eggs.

I cant believe that after 28 plus days of not crushing eggs that she happened to crush and eat 4 of her eggs in one day. Based on the evidence we know at least two poults hatched out clean. I would suspect all 4 of the poults either hatched or were in the process of hatching when found by a predator. Our cat Cali is greatly under suspicion. I can imagine that a hatching or newly hatched poult is very vulnerable to predators.

We were all very discouraged and upset. Four of our long awaited poults disappeared. I candled her remaining eggs. Four turkey eggs look like they will hatch soon. The two adopted chicken eggs also look almost ready to hatch. The remaining four Turkey eggs look very low in development, like they have only been sat for a week or more. These eggs don't have any blood spots or blood rings inside, so there is still some hope, that maybe they will grow, but I am very doubtful. After the ready chicks and poults hatch I will candle them and watch them very closely for any development, if the eggs do not show any advancement in development then I will let her continue to sit them.

Yesterday we retrofitted her house to make it predator proof. It took us more then an hour. All the while she sat on her nest while we worked around her. At times we lifted the house off of here and turned and twisted it to work on it. She still sat on her nest like a good little mother. I do believe she knew we were helping. She looked unstressed for the most part. She ate the green grass she could reach when the home was off, preened her feathers, and even slept while we worked. The drill made her nervous and other occasional bangs did also, but she still sat calmly on her nest.

I slept well last night knowing her and her eggs were well protected from predators. I am hopeful that the rest of the poults and chicks will be healthy. When I get to see a poult I will post pictures.

Honey for a Burn?

Here is the burn after honey. See where the blister was, it looks allot better now.

Curious got burned on the chicken warming light when he was trying to get some baby chicks out to play with. It was a pretty bad burn with a blister right where the light touched his skin. I had him lay down with a wet towel and ice pack on it until it cooled down allot. I could not find my medical supplies (still packed) or any of my burn treatment stuff. So I looked up online how to treat a burn naturally. I found the Home Remedy Reference Center's list of Burn Remedies. I read down the list until I found a treatment requiring what I had on hand, honey. I spread honey on the burn and folded up a paper towel to cover it, then taped it down with regular scotch tape. Kind of a make shift bandage, but Curious is up and walking around and acting like he has no complaints. So far so good.

About an hour later.... Curious just said "my shirt is all sticky. Do you know why? Because I took off my bandage and it had honey all over it." I told him "You were not suppose to take it off without my help." He says "Why is my burn still there? It thought it was all better because I did not feel it." Sounds like it worked.

The honey sealed in the wound from the air so it did not sting. As the honey dried it created a coating over the wound, which is still there.

Simple Beauty

Simple Beauty is my current focus. There is so much around in the spring to enjoy and be happy about. I have a working camera now, the joy! It is my goal to create, enjoy and find simple beauty all around me. Here are some of the Simple Beauties I found around my home.

What is more simple and beautiful then a sleeping angle. Here is my son sound asleep. Notice the sun on his cheeks, he has been spending his days exploring our yard. Today we filled the duck pool and the wading pool. After some fun splashing in the water, and warming up in the sun, the little guy was all tuckered out.

Daffodils are my favorite! Not only did we find the perfect home, with the perfect yard, in the perfect neighborhood... But imagine my surprise when tons of daffodils started popping up in my front yard. This truly is my dream home.

Got to love fresh eggs in a nest. Normally the ducks and the chickens do not get along. But what bird can resist a nest full of clean straw. Here you see one welsummer chicken egg and one duck egg.

I took allot of photos our our poultry. But these ducks just photograph so well, they belong on my beauty list for today. Puff is the male on the right and Peel-a-boo is the female on the left. Peek-a-boo has a feather that gets in the way of her eye, thus her name, and the reason her eye can only be seen a bit. They are white crested ducks.

Apricot blossoms and blue sky, not much more beautiful then that. I have two apricot trees on the yard, one in the front yard and one in the back yard. Unfortunately both have been attacked by borers so parts of the trees are dying. But I was glad to see the parts of the tree that are still alive and in full blossom.

I hope to have more beauty to show you tomorrow.

Broody Broad Breasted Turkey!

I have been reading through other posts about Broody Broad Breasted Turkeys. Sigh... I wish I could make this easier for my turkey. I noticed some patterns from the past posts. These broody turkeys really steal our hearts, we really love them and want to help them hatch a brood. I have tried everything I can think of and now I may have to give up on my quest, sigh.

We got our turkey as a poult with a bunch of chicks. Because she was the biggest she instantly became Mama bird with all the chicks trying to crowd under her. Even though she was Mama bird she cried like a little baby for her humans and loved to be petted and held. To this day she loves human attention. My son will chase after her tackle her to the ground and she will sit and happily be pet for as long as the kids want to pet her. How could you not love such a bird!

She is more intelligent and different then my chickens. She notices every time we take eggs, hers or the chickens. As soon as she saw the pattern that all of her eggs were being taken she stopped laying, and only would lay if she found a really good hiding place where she thought we would leave her eggs alone. Even though she was not laying her own eggs she went broody and started sitting the chickens eggs.

When we had a wild baby duckling in our yard get separated from its mother she immediately sat down over it to protect it. She is very motherly. The duckling got reunited with its mother, but until it did she was happy to be a substitute mother.

We purchased her some baby chicks, and put her alone with the baby chicks. She was upset and wanted nothing to do with the baby chicks, and felt cagey for being locked up with them. When we let her out she wanted nothing more to do with them ever.

Next we bought her fertile chicken eggs. One by one they were crushed and ruined. I thought they were being attacked by the other chickens because they knew these were not their eggs.

Finally we advertised a want add for a Tom turkey. We bought a "Tom" turkey for her in hopes that he could help her hatch a brood. Imagine our surprise when the Tom turned out to be yet another broody broad breasted turkey sitting on a nest of eggs. Only after this did I do some reading, and find out that a Tom would not be able to mate with her properly.

Next we started looking into heritage turkeys. I hatched a plan of purchasing fertile turkey eggs and switching them out for her eggs and letting her hatch some heritage turkey eggs. Then I read some posts about broad breasted turkeys crushing eggs. So now I am thinking that plan wont even work.

Maybe I could get some heritage turkey poults and let her mate with them in a year when they are old enough. But even then, wont there be a scare of her crushing the eggs?

My husband says I should give up I have tried all I could. And that is very logical. But watching her be broody over non fertile eggs is sad .

Researching and Planning on Rabbits for Survival Meat

Below is a post I just posted in a Yahoo group about raising rabbits in a colony.

I have just been enjoying myself going through all the groups posted links and photos. Great info there. Thank you.

We have free range chickens and are in the process of planning on adding in rabbits to our little place for a survival meat source. I think we have moved-on to where we can butcher animals and not be totally squeamish. This year we changed from Wellsummer chickens to Orpington Chickens. The chickens are rather cute and fluffy, we will see if "cute and fluffy" makes it harder to butcher when they are old enough.

My kids have been planning and plotting on how to get me to be willing to keep rabbits. When I finally told them I would agree to rabbits if they agreed to one thing they would not like. They all said "you mean we will have to eat them? WE AGREEE!" lol... so I guess my kids say they will be willing to eat their rabbits. Time will tell.

We just purchased an e-book called "Raising Rabbits to Survive." It was rather informative. All this talk about torching metal cages to sterilise them though is not what I had in mind. In fact one lone bunny per small square cage is not what I had in mind. While I am willing to eat my animals I am not willing for them to be unhappy. I hate looking at rabbits in cages. But watching my chickens scratch and explore the yard makes me happy.

I am excited to find this group. And I am gathering info in order to convince my husband that we can in fact own rabbits and have them happy in a colony. His concerns at this time are burrowing and poop management. So far I have read that digging down the fence six inches stops burrowing, and poop management is as easy as scattering wood chips over poop, then shoveling out piles. Oh and snakes, we have some snakes on our place. So the Kits would have to be extra protected from snakes.

Has anyone here tried the equivalent of a chicken tractor for rabbits? We live on a half an acre, which might not seem like much, but we just moved in and are ELATED to have our little patch of dirt. There is quite a field of grass that I would like to tractor my bunnies on to help keep their feed costs down. I read somewhere about making a bunny tractor with 4" spacing in the wire. If you know anything about this I would love to hear more.

Do not tell the kids to wait for you to finish a project. If you do they will each start their own projects, and will not want to stop them to get the routine started.

Mom and dad always made sure we had a bicycle.

Dad made sure we knew how to ride it. We would get at least one good day with dad running behind us helping us learn to ride our bicycle. After a while I would pull my bike up to the curb and stand on the curb to get a good straight start. I remember riding circles in front of dad and dad being so pleased that I could ride my bike. most of the time we got our bikes for Christmas. and most of the time I had a ten speed bike. but at first all of us girls had bikes with those long banana seats that were all the rage. and of course the bikes were pink and girly, and over time the banana seats were duct taped together, because the sun would dry theme out and break them apart. I think I had training wheels to start, and then came the big day when dad took them off and taught me to ride without them.

That is what my mother often said. And each of us kids would get excited. That meant picnics, pretty scenery, playing in the stream, exploring, looking at wild flowers, and all around good family times. I forgot to mention the water fight in the stream, there was always a water fight in the stream.

My Head is Spinning...

I have always wanted to be good at music.... So I was somewhat excited at that challenge to learn how to lead. Though not at all excited to be infront of the whole ward :p. I learned in Marching Band about how to lead a song. But all it took was substituting one time for Primary Chorister for me to realise just how much I have forgotten, and how off beat I can get. I am moving through this course and much of it is review, I have been mostly feeling fine, keeping up. Today I got to Fermatas (spell check does not even know what a fermata is), Pick up Beat, Preparatory Beat, Holds, and Cut offs, and my head is spinning. I expected that I would need to practice each song at home quite a bit just to make sure I could stay on rhythm. I tend to follow the rhythm of the words more then the rhythm of the notes. But now I realise I am going to have to practice each song just to get use the the unique elements of it.

I am excited that they have a VHS at the library I can watch... But I do not have a VHS player, only DVD... Maybe they will let me rent a VHS player over the week? My hymn book is still packed. Thankfully I have a DVD with all the hymns on it, hopefully that is not packed and I can find it. I think I need to buy a metronome. My speakers on my computer stopped working last week, so I can not play the music off the web... Some technical difficulties here, and lots of butterflies.. Lord willing I can get it together enough to at least look like I understand basic rhythm on my first day.

We don't go anywhere if we have a mild sniffle or mild cough. So now everyone thinks we are always sick... sigh

Many people walk around with a mild sniffle, mild cough, and with kids with such mild symptoms. Even when I am going out of my way to be hyper sensitive to such things, I might notice a mild sniffle or cough in my kids only while we are out and about. But those times, when I can I abort mission and go back home.

A couple of different things stacked up 3-4 years ago that made us much more cautious.

First is we had strep throat, and were on antibiotics for more then the required 24 hours, and feeling much better. We went to visit some cousins, and did not think much of it, we were medicated and feeling better. Only months later did we find out that poor cousin was hospitalised because she was infected with strep throat that has already been exposed to antibiotics. Now we will not leave the home for five days if we are on medication, we do not trust the 24 hour rule at all.

Second is that our real good friends the Andrus's had a daughter that was immuno suppressed, she could turn any minor cold into phenomena. From that experience we stopped going out for even minor colds.

Third, I educated myself on immunizations. I learned that many of the more mild sicknesses actually had a poor track record with their immunization. Many people think they are immunized for a sickness, but are not. Because of this they are less concerned, and do not notice when they actually carry a more sever sickness. I chose not to immunise for these sicknesses that could be cared for well by modern medicine. Instead I educated my self real well about symptoms and cures. When whooping cough was going around, and many people I knew were walking around, feeling mostly fine, but spreading whooping cough, I knew. As soon as we got whooping cough from people who did not know they had it, I called everyone we had been around and told them. I did this because all sicknesses incubate and are spreadable before you know you have them. Of course, at that time it looked like we were the ones who were spreading it, and the ones who were careless about being sick... sigh...

I know that even a mild cough can be the start of a major sickness, it just has not shown its strength yet. We have missed many family functions, church days, and other events because we were "sick". This creates a number of misunderstandings. Most people only stay home if they are really sick. Because we stay home for all mild sniffles and colds, people start to think we are really sick all the time. Sigh. Oh well... I still would rather error on the side of caution, and let the misunderstandings happen. We are not super humans, we do get sick, our younger kids do get the average sniffle and cough. If we are exposed we tank up on herbs, and mostly can overcome the sickness faster then average. But the truth is, yes, we do get sick.... If we are above average in something, then it is that we are above average in being careful not to get other people sick.

I am so happy with my real estate agent!! I just had to put a review up for her. At every point in our transaction she has been the epitome of honesty. While looking for homes Janice honestly expressed any concerns she may have about each property. When making an offer Janice made sure to do everything correctly and quickly, she wanted to make sure we were the first offer in. Janice runs circles around my selling agent and mortgage lender making sure everything is handled correctly. When the seller sent us a long contract to sign Janice personally read through every bit of it to make sure we were not getting into problems with it. She then answered every one of our questions about the contracts with experience. When the selling agent messed up and did not give the inspector the correct information, Janice was right there, she spent several hours of her time making sure she solved the problem. Janice has years of extensive experience including experience in short sells and foreclosures, which became vital for us as we bought our foreclosed home. My husband is so impressed by Janice that he wanted to see if he could suggest her as a Dave Ramsey Endorsed Local Provider, but it looks like that is not something we can recommend her for from our end. The Work of Creation
The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul. No matter our talents, education, backgrounds, or abilities, we each have an inherent wish to create something that did not exist before.
Everyone can create. You don’t need money, position, or influence in order to create something of substance or beauty.
Creation brings deep satisfaction and fulfillment. We develop ourselves and others when we take unorganized matter into our hands and mold it into something of beauty—and I am not talking about the process of cleaning the rooms of your teenage children.
You might say, “I’m not the creative type. When I sing, I’m always half a tone above or below the note. I cannot draw a line without a ruler. And the only practical use for my homemade bread is as a paperweight or as a doorstop.”
If that is how you feel, think again, and remember that you are spirit daughters of the most creative Being in the universe. Isn’t it remarkable to think that your very spirits are fashioned by an endlessly creative and eternally compassionate God? Think about it—your spirit body is a masterpiece, created with a beauty, function, and capacity beyond imagination.
But to what end were we created? We were created with the express purpose and potential of experiencing a fulness of joy.4 Our birthright—and the purpose of our great voyage on this earth—is to seek and experience eternal happiness. One of the ways we find this is by creating things.
If you are a mother, you participate with God in His work of creation—not only by providing physical bodies for your children but also by teaching and nurturing them. If you are not a mother now, the creative talents you develop will prepare you for that day, in this life or the next.
You may think you don’t have talents, but that is a false assumption, for we all have talents and gifts, every one of us.5 The bounds of creativity extend far beyond the limits of a canvas or a sheet of paper and do not require a brush, a pen, or the keys of a piano. Creation means bringing into existence something that did not exist before—colorful gardens, harmonious homes, family memories, flowing laughter.
What you create doesn’t have to be perfect. So what if the eggs are greasy or the toast is burned? Don’t let fear of failure discourage you. Don’t let the voice of critics paralyze you—whether that voice comes from the outside or the inside.
If you still feel incapable of creating, start small. Try to see how many smiles you can create, write a letter of appreciation, learn a new skill, identify a space and beautify it.
Nearly a century and a half ago, President Brigham Young spoke to the Saints of his day. “There is a great work for the Saints to do,” he said. “Progress, and improve upon and make beautiful everything around you. Cultivate the earth, and cultivate your minds. Build cities, adorn your habitations, make gardens, orchards, and vineyards, and render the earth so pleasant that when you look upon your labors you may do so with pleasure, and that angels may delight to come and visit your beautiful locations. In the mean time continually seek to adorn your minds with all the graces of the Spirit of Christ.”6
The more you trust and rely upon the Spirit, the greater your capacity to create. That is your opportunity in this life and your destiny in the life to come. Sisters, trust and rely on the Spirit. As you take the normal opportunities of your daily life and create something of beauty and helpfulness, you improve not only the world around you but also the world within you.

Homeschooling Again

Working part time at home dramatically cut into our homeschooling time. For a while there I was keeping the household running and not finding as much time for homeschool as I wanted. I kept waiting for the time when I was excited about homeschool and all I wanted to do was homeschool with my children, and it kept not happening. That is a standard pattern for our life. We get excited about homeschooling and all the kids and I end up doing for a while is homeschooling day in and day out. Then as time goes buy we homeschool a little bit less and a little bit less as other focuses take up some of our time, and finally we are busy and fitting homeschool in the cracks. Then one day we wake up and realise that we have been missing homeschool and start planning our next homeschool attack. In short order we are back on top homeschooling at the drop of the hat every chance we can get. Which describes our family right now.

The Banks Made the Matrix

We are in The Matrix, The Matrix made by the international banks. They power their greed by feeding off of our money. Through engineered economic booms and busts they scoop off our money stealing it right out from under our noses.

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." Thomas Jefferson

We don't need no thought control. Through bank owned media institutions they control our thoughts just like in the Matrix. Nothing that challenges The Matrix is allowed to be reported on by the establishment News. Even worse yet, Public Compulsory Schooling teaches what to think, instead of how to think. Through public school we are taught to be yes men, to stand in line, to follow orders. Essential tools needed if The Matrix is going to control masses of people. Public Compulsory Education was a necessary requirement to pave the way for Hitler.

Read A Wrinkle in Time to see the conditioning I am speaking of, the thought control of the masses.

Man can not serve two masters. When children spend so much time in school who becomes their master? The government, the establishmen, not their God fearing, values oriented parents. The Matrix is raising our nations children. Break out of The Matrix, think for your self.

In two hours homeschoolers cover more than the Public School does in a day. With one on one time children learn wonderfully quick.

Public school controls our nations home life by sending home ever more demanding after school homework. Why do you think they send homework home? Two reasons, to fill our home time with their busy work so we do not spend it creating family ties, and teaching moral values. And because they know our home is more effective in training and teaching the children than they are. If we actually are the people teaching our children through homework, then what are our children doing while they are at school?

Our nations children are being Socially Engineered. No I do not want my children socalised in The Matrix. I want children who learn how to think, rather than be conditioned what to do, like Pavlovs dogs.

Something dies inside of a mother when her children die, her unborn children die, or her opportunities to have children die. Maybe it could also be said that something dies inside of a woman when her opportunity to have children die.

Fear of Death

I just did a survey on Facebook "How well do you know Jeanine" in this survey one of my challenge questions was "What am I the most scared of?" The answer was "My children dying" It was interesting to see the answers, every woman that has had a miscarriage or child loss, got this one correct. Every mother who has not experienced child loss got it wrong. Loosing children changes something, something very dramatic in us. A prominent woman I know, and look up to, seems to walk through life with a ting of sadness behind every experience. It hurts me to see it, but the sadness there is the unquenchable kind, that no one can take away, the loss of a young newborn baby. Ah, women it hurts me to discuss, but those of us who have lost a child knows what happens afterwards, the gut wrenching chaos.

Every moment, every decision, every last moment, or first moment, every breath the child took, or did not take, are combed over with a comb finer then an outsider can understand. What are we looking for? Answers. We are trying to comprehend what this means, the loss of an innocent, the loss of a whole entire life, an whole entire undefined potential. We want to know, why did my child die? The very word child is foreign to the word death, the two do not go together. And sadly, we do spend so much time on this last one, we wonder what did I do wrong, what could I do differently.

The loss of a Pearl of Innocent Potential

"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were: any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee. --John Donne"

Fading, fading, and it is gone. That potential life is gone. Many outsiders may not have even been aware that innocent Pearl of Life existed before it lost its opportunity. The outside eyes that did not discern the Pearl also missed the essential change that overtook the mother at finding the Pearl. Like a strong sweeping change of the seasons, that Pearl of Life caused an unseen transformation in the mother. Looking towards that Pearl the mother sees farther, clearer, and more resound the future, its potential, its path. The mother instinctively knows her whole future is now changed because of this Pearl. She reviews her old plans and rewrites in her new existence, that of being a mother. With that careful detail, that mothers are known for, she evaluates what this change means in the next second, the next minute, hour, day, week, month, year, two years, ten years, twenty years, lifetime. And there it is, woven deep throughout her soul, the change, the lifetime of change that one innocent Pearl brought to her.

Why such a dramatic change for such a little Pearl? Because of its nature, it was a piece of the Divine, with divine potential. The mother quickly learns and finds her mission. Her mission is to take this one little Pearl of potential and help it grow into something divine. When I garden and a seed or a bulb is lost I miss the potential the seed had inside of it. But how more significant is the loss of a Pearl with a divine nature. We search, we want to know, where is that Pearl now? It was transferred, to some new potential, some new existence, that we barely fathom and strain to understand. Up there in the elusive clouds of heaven that Pearl of potential is now a spirit, a spirit with spiritual potential, being cared for and loved by angles. In this we can find peace. Sometimes we may pray that the angles will take care of this little spirit. Sometimes we may send messages up in prayer that we miss the spirit, and are thinking of it. Sometimes we may even find our selves crying out to heaven because we wanted to know this spirit ourselves, we wanted to raise the spirit ourselves, rather then have it be cared for by the angels. And then we feel the calming peace of our Lord telling us that this spirit is in his care, this spirit is in heaven, and we remember that heaven is... well heaven, though unfathomable, heaven.

What did I do wrong?

We start the all inclusive search. We review every detail. Looking for answers, we look to see if we need to learn something from this hard lesson, if something learned might help us prevent this from happening again. If we made a mistake we need to ask Gods help to fix. At some point, if not held in check, we take a turn from a healing path of review to a confusing path of responsibility. If only I had done this, if only I had done that, if only.... We feel responsible and guilty for every little thing that we did not do perfectly. We make our selves believe that if only we had been more perfect we could have prevented such a loss. Maybe we try to conceive again and run through a check list of how to be perfect, checking them off in hopes that a better performance will make a better outcome. But then if we experience loss again we only see more or new flaws with that new loss, and can run through a cycle of perfectionism, blame, and guilt. We can come up with a hundred things we did wrong, and hundred things we could have done better, and trying again compounds the list.

Regrets

A young lady I know helped to care for a high medical needs baby. I know that she devoted allot of love and attention, time and care to this fragile baby. Eventually this baby scummed to his mortal body and passed away. She sorrowed greatly for a moment shortly before this babies death where she became frustrated with this baby. It has been said that a loss is more bitter when you have regrets, and harder to get over. When death is figured into the calculation small imperfections in ourselves can seem so much more intolerable. We wish we could go back and change our actions, repair the past.

The Judgement of God

"Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.” —Daniel 5:27

....It was a short conversation I had with Monica that day, a conversation in passing. But what she said that day changed me... She gave a simple rebuttal to one of the most common phrases we hear after a loss. "It must have been meant to be." These words of faith are meant to be comforting to the mother, but so often are not. "Meant to be?" we scream inside "how could such a tragic loss be meant to be?" Monica said that through much prayer and heartache she found a different answer from God. She found that our mortal bodies are weak and frail, that creating life is very complicated, and that the weakness of mortality, of her body has stopped the Lord from blessing her as he would want. He did not plan for her to loose these children, he did not plan for her to have a difficult time conceiving. This was not meant to be, this was an unfortunate consequence of having a mortal and imperfect body.

Meaning well an outsider wants a simple answer, and wants to lend comfort and help. "This must have been meant to be" is such a pretty faith filled package for someone disconnected from the loss. They do not think this statement through to the obvious conclusions and do not mean any offense by it. But there it hangs in the air, like a judgement from God, "This must have been meant to be." Maybe because it is about such a sensitive subject, maybe because we hear it so often, from almost everyone who learns of our loss, for what ever reason... We flip this statement over and over in our minds, looking for those answers, trying to see if this statement does in fact hold the answer it is expected to give.

These are the answers we find in that statement. God meant for this baby to only live for a short time. Which may make us ask why did God mean for this baby to get the short end of the stick. God meant for you to loose this baby. If the miscarriages, or infertility persists then this statement burns in even further... It becomes. God does not mean for you to have children. or God does not mean for you to have any more children. Either way, to an outsider, recovering from these conclusions simply requires faith, faith in the Lord and his plan for us. For the mother this judgement means so much more. In the LDS community with the highest degree of glory involving creating more spiritual children, this statement can be like barring the very glory of heaven from us. In a crazy world where unwed, teenage or drug addicted women have children we may cry to the Lord asking "why would you choose them and not me?"

I find so much more truth in Monica's understanding. This was not meant to be, this was an unfortunate consequence of having a mortal and imperfect body. From there it is easier to build faith in the fact that...

“all things work together for good to them that love God.” (Rom. 8:28)

Based on the article posted below I have changed the recomendations of this book just a little bit. Listed below are my changes and why.

Sambucol is strongly recomended by the HTBTBF book. But according to the article listed below Elderberry juice is to be AVOIDED

because it increases productionof cytokines TNF-a and IL-6. ...Cytokines are compounds produced by the body s immune system that attack and remove foreign bodies. The problem is that when a foreign body is immune to certain cytokines, the body sees that its immune response is not working and tries even harder, which can lead to what is called a cytokine storm, where the body becomes flooded with these compounds and they eventually destroy the body itself.

Echinacea was removed from the recomended herbs because the article says below it should be AVOIDED also.

and IL-6. Although it is often used for normal flu, research
shows that it may increase the chance of cytokine storms for
H5N1.

Spirulina is to be AVOIDED because it...

increases production of cytokine TNF-a.

Chocolate and Honey and Bananas are also foods that should be AVOIDED.

Dairy Products of course should always be AVOIDED when one has a cold or flu.

Regular readers know that I have no time for the nonsense
relating to imagined bird-flu pandemics. However. I regarded
the following item of sufficient novelty to be of some
interest. You may judge its merits for yourself.

Research suggests certain natural foods may be as effective
against virus H5N1 as commercial antivirals.

(PRWEB) May 10, 2006 -- A Biology teacher from Australia,
named Stephen Jones, has done extensive research into the
H5N1 virus and compiled a list of natural foods that are
effective against it and listed others that are detrimental.

The list may come as a surprise to many people since foods
such as spirulina and echinacea are listed as detrimental.
This strange occurrence is largely due to the fact that the
virus is immune to 2 cytokines that the body produces (TNF-a
and IL-6). Cytokines are compounds produced by the body s
immune system that attack and remove foreign bodies. The
problem is that when a foreign body is immune to certain
cytokines, the body sees that its immune response is not
working and tries even harder, which can lead to what is
called a cytokine storm, where the body becomes flooded with
these compounds and they eventually destroy the body itself.
Foods such as Echinacea actually stimulate the production of
these specific cytokines; hence consuming it is not a good
idea if one suspects they may have the virus.

During the 1918 Spanish Flu many healthy young people died
from cytokine storms due to their immune systems
overreacting. Consuming foods which suppress the production
of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6 and enhance the production of
the ones that actually are effective against the virus will
aid the patient greatly.

Other foods that create mucous in the respiratory tract,
such as bananas, are also listed as detrimental due to the
fact that the predominant breeding ground of the virus is
the respiratory tract and another way in which a patient may
suffer is due to the body's over production of mucous in
this area.

Folk Medicines and Herbs to use and avoid with Bird Flu

Below is a list of foods that are said to contain
substances that are natural antivirals, immune boosters or
they decrease cytokines TNF-a and IL-6.

Alternative medications that are most likely to help us
during a severe pandemic:

Garlic (allicin) - Very effective antiviral. Best if fresh
(raw) and crushed. Must be consumed within 1 hour of
crushing. Dosage is initially 2 to 3 cloves per day but
later reduce until no body odour occurs. No toxic effects
noted. (Pubmed PMID 9049657)

Vitamin C - Boosts the immune system and is an antiviral by
blocking the enzyme neuraminadase. Viruses need
neuraminadase to reproduce. There are anecdotal stories of
people taking large amounts of Vitamin C (children )
surviving the Spanish Flu. Research shows that it may reduce
the production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6. A study on 470
people involved giving the test group 1000 mg hourly for 6
hours and then 1000 mg 3 times daily after reporting flu
symptoms. Symptoms decreased by 85%. (Pubmed PMID 10543583,
634178, 16169205, 12876306)

Green Tea (possible Tamiflu/Relenza alternative)- Very
effective antiviral. Also decreases the production of the
cytokine (catechins) TNF-a. Inhibits neuraminidase. May have
antiviral activity that is equal to other antivirals such as
Tamiflu. (Pubmed PMID 16137775)

St Johns Wort (Hypericum) - Very effective antiviral. Also
decreases the production of the cytokine IL-6. Hypericum is
an extract from St John s Wort. There have been some very
successful field trials in commercial flocks infected with
H5N1 in Vietnam. (Pubmed PMID 7857513, 11518071, 11362353,
7857513, 11518071)

Vitamin E - Immune booster. Also decreases the production
of the cytokine TNF-a. (Pubmed PMID 155882360, 10929076)
Experiments involved using mice. Very suitable for immune
compromised people, especially the elderly. Effects enhanced
when taken with Vitamin C.

Apple Juice - Antiviral. Fresh apple juice including the
pulp and skin has greater antiviral activity than heated
commercial apple juice. More research is needed.
Effectiveness on H5N1 is unknown. (Pubmed PMID 32832,
12452634)

Resveratrol - Antiviral. In addition to inhibiting
neuraminidase, Resveratrol also sends a message to cells to
stop manufacturing viruses. This is a proven antiviral found
naturally in red wine, peanuts, mulberries, Japanese
Knotwood root (richest source), raisins and red grapes.
Resveratrol supplements are relatively inexpensive, are more
stable than wine and is available in liquid form for
absorption in the mouth. No toxic effects noted. (Pubmed
PMID 1583880, 12817628, 15985724)

Scuttellaria (Skullcap) - Antiviral. A herb used as a tea.
It has no side effects and is also a mild tranquilliser.
Research suggests neuraminidase, which is a substance needed
by the H5N1 virus to reproduce, may be inhibited.

Cranberry Juice - Early research shows that it may be an
antiviral, making viruses less able to invade or multiply.
Effectiveness on H5N1 is unknown. (Pubmed PMID15781126)

Cat s Claw (Uncaria tomentosa) - Decreases the production
of the cytokine TNF-a. Also boosts immune system. The number
of white blood cells was significantly increased during
treatment. No toxicity was noted.

Active constituents can be found in the leaves, bark, vine,
and roots. Water extraction from bark used. Children and
pregnant women are to avoid. Has a potentially damaging
effect on the DNA of proliferating cells. (cancers,
foetuses, growing children)

Curcumin (Tumeric Spice) - Decreases the production of the
cytokine TNF-a. This is the yellow compound in turmeric
spice. Research shows that this may be very good for
preventing a cytokine storm although this is not proven.
Must be taken with food or gastritis or peptic ulcers may
occur. Pregnant women and feeding mothers should avoid this.
The medicinal properties of curcurnin cannot be utilised
when used alone due to rapid metabolism in the liver and
intestinal wall. When combined with Piperine found in black
pepper the absorption is increased with no adverse effects.
Obtainable from health stores in tablets, liquid, capsules
already combined with piperine. Dosage is 500mg to 4000mg
daily.

Astragalus root (Astragali Radix) - Boosts immune system.
(Pubmed PMID15588652)

Tea tree Steam Inhalation - Reduces the cytokine TNF-a. Add
2 drops of tea tree oil in a bowl of steaming water. Cover
head with a towel and inhale for 5 to 10 minutes. Relieves
congestion and fights infection. Its effectiveness is
unknown. (Pubmed PMID 11131302)

The following substances may be best to avoid during a H5N1
pandemic

Elderberry juice (Sambucal) - AVOID - Increases production
of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6. This substance is very
effective against the common flu but may not be desirable
for the H5N1 virus. Increases in these cytokines may trigger
a lethal cytokine storm. (Isr Med Journal2002 Nov;4:944-6)

Micro Algae (Chlorella and Spirulina) - AVOID - Increases
production of cytokine TNF-a. (Pubmed PMID 11731916)

Honey - AVOID - Increases production of cytokines TNF-a and
IL-6. (Pubmed PMID12824009)

Chocolate - AVOID - Increases production of cytokines TNF-a
and IL-6. (Pubmed PMID 12885154, PMID 10917928)

Echinacea - AVOID - Increases production of cytokines TNF-a
and IL-6. Although it is often used for normal flu, research
shows that it may increase the chance of cytokine storms for
H5N1. (Pubmed PMID 15556647, 9568541)

Kimchi - AVOID - Increases production of cytokines TNF-a
and IL-6. (Pubmed PMID15630182)

Dairy products & Bananas - AVOID - These foods increase
mucous production.

Hello I recently read this article on 3 Reasons Moms Are Addicted to the Internet. Needless to say I had a million thoughts while I was reading it.

Remembering back to my first baby.... I remember the cultural shock of becoming a SAHM and the learning curve as I learned through trial and error how to fulfill my new roll. I remember when I first joined a support group for women and mothers online. It did almost overtake my life as I drank in the refreshing new support it gave to my life, but over time it found its place into my life in a balanced manner. Since that time I have been in many support groups, hosted many support groups, and started quite a few blogs, not to mention Face Book and Twitter. So is it true? Is the Internet an addiction? I have been turning this over in my mind.

The Internet is a tool I think... After reading that article I went and sat down in my front room and spent time with my kids. But a few hours later when I needed to pay bills, where did I go? Back to the Internet. Later that day when I had an unanswerable question, where did I go? to Google. Now today as I am filling in time between calls as I WAH where do I go? MMB's....

Overall the Internet has been a wonderful tool to my life. Does using a tool allot because it works quantify an addiction? I am thinking no. But like all things there needs to be balance in all things...

Hello I am Jeanine. I have been a SAHM for 9 years and a WAHM mom for 7 months. Our family is running like a gazelle Dave Ramsey style in order to pay out of debt, this is why I have started to WAH. My DH also took on a 2nd job. Life around here has gotten a little bit crazy, but I do hope I will someday feel like I have adjusted to the new lifestyle.

On WAHM

A strange thing happened when I started working at home... I seemed to suddenly have more respect from people in general. Funny how working for a pay check is more of a quantifiable success that others can see, and increases you in their estimation over and above "just" being a SAHM. I am glad to have the added respect, it is refreshing.

Strange thing is, my kids were better taken care of and more attended to when I did not work. Over all I do feel I accomplished more when I was "just" a SAHM then I do now that I am also juggling WAHM. But that is a nuance an "outsider" would not get.

Now in life I am trying to learn this new juggling act, prioritise, and learn how to succeed at both being a SAHM and a WAHM.

On Food Storage

I love whole foods and food storage. I have heard some say that it is an antiquated idea, and have dismissed it my talking about how the presidency has changed many times what they recommend a family to store and how much. I could not disagree more.

Food storage has many benefits, it is more healthy and less expensive just to mention a few. As I wonder about the political climate and future of our country I find these words to be true. "If you are prepared ye shall not fear.

On Getting out of Debt

I have always considered SAHM and Homeschooling to be like an overtime job, so now our family is making the adjustment to both parents working a 2nd job. The most challenging factor is to control spending. As our family works harder we seem to have larger needs, food for example, our food expense has gone up allot since we took on more work. We have to be careful to no "eat away all the profits" literally.

On Homeschooling

Hello I have four children, three lovely girls, one busy boy, ages 9-3. I have always homeschooled from the beginning. When my oldest was young I found it was a joy to homeschool her through preschool. As kindergarten approached I decided I did not want to send her away and miss out on all the fun. Thus our homeschool started. I have an eclectic approach. I love the classics approach and do the majority of my homeschooling through classics, with a focus on the development of character through the ages TJE style. I have tried k-12 but found it to be too cumbersome for more then one child. I like Charllote Mason's focus on hands on, art, and nature. The best way I have ever motivated my children to practice spelling and writing is through making art and cards for family members and friends. We largely homeschool on interest based education in unschooling fashion and this is wonderful for me. With this simple approach we play through homeschooling always on the adventure of learning new things, which works great for my kids that are in core and love of learning phase.

Public school controls our nations home life by sending home ever more demanding after school homework. Why do you think they send homework home? Two reasons, to fill our home time with their busy work so we do not spend it creating family ties, and teaching moral values. And because they know our home is more effective in training and teaching the children then they are. If we actually are the people teaching our children through homework, then what are our children doing while they are at school?

Our nations children are being Socially Engineered. No I do not want my children socalised in The Matrix. I want children who learn how to think, rather then be conditioned what to do, like Pavlovs dogs.

Hypertufa is a cementatious mix that differs from regular concrete in that it has no rocks in it, only sand and peat moss. Even though Jeff and I are both working extra jobs to get out of debt Dave Ramsey style, we were able to find the time for Glenns big We Surround Them Debut. We went to the meetup at Noah's in South Jordan. The Noah's reception center was a lovely location, the place was packed. Doors opened at 2 for sitting, we showed up about ten minuets after 2pm and all the seats in the main room were already full. Thankfully they had overflow rooms. Jeff walked up the outside of the main room and talked to people intill he found us two seats, two rows from the front. In addition to providing a nice location free cookies, water and books were provided.

The show opened with Glen Beck back stage at his studio. At one point he was so over come he started to cry and joked that he was becoming a televangelist.

I was impressed when Glenn said we were Meetup.com largest meetup. Also they purchased the largest server possible, and still shut it down immediately with all the traffic trying to get to the912project.com . The 9-12 Project is still shut down now.

The suspense was continued when Glen said he was working on two different projects he wanted to show us on 9/12/09. Then he challenged us to show him what we could do between now and then also.

Glenn Beck recommended two books. The 5000 Year Leap and The Real George Washington. Jeff has read the 5000 year leap, and loved it. He has been telling many people to read it, and one of them even challenged our Steak President to read it. Everything I have heard Jeff say about the book is wonderful.

We decided we host a Republic reading group to read these important books, starting with The 5000 year leap, then The real George Washington, then going on from there.

I agree that we need to educate ourselves first, then act. That acting on fear without conviction and understanding only makes the problem worse. Glenn said the government is so messed up that it will take 100 years to clear it up. That is a long time. But what else are we to do? Do we fight the never ending battle, or stand in the socialist line with our heads down?

Glen asked us if we are willing to do what is right even if it means it will be hard and we loose everything for it in order to establish freedom for our children. Yes, I am willing to do that.

Glenn had a special guest who had discussed survivors, the best survivors had two important things, faith in God and a community. If you are disconnected from community you are divided week and conquered. It is just like the 9-12 snake, Unite or Die.

Afterwards at home I showed my children the We The People photo mosaic of the We Surround Them photos. They were pretty impressed by that. Then I showed them the 9-12 snake, and read to them the principals and values. Out of the mouth of babes... it all just made sense to them.

I am glad to have my faith renewed. I have been reading and watching our march to socialism for years, and have written and called my representatives and the white house many times. But it all started to seem to loose its point, and seemed ineffective. It is nice to see the community surrounding The 9-12 Program and know I am not alone. I am thankful for the strength in numbers and the community of like minded people who care about the principals of the Founding Fathers.

Stumbling Blocks

In a recent blog post My thoughts on Stumbeling Blocks I try to understand what stumbeling blocks are. My husband just gave me a second preisthood blessing where he told me my stumbeling block had been removed. Two blessings in a row (almost a year apart) with almost the same wording in it. What a wonderful blessing I thought at first. But all the things in my life that were dificult did not get any easier after the first blessing. After the second blessing I worried that I was doing something persionally wrong, because I still struggle with all the same flaws. This is a new nugget of truth on what stumbeling blocks might mean. I think I understand the blessing a bit better now.

The Bible sits on the pulpit of hundreds of different religious sects. The Book of Mormon, the record of Joseph, verifies and clarifies the Bible. It removes stumbling blocks, it restores many plain and precious things. We testify that when used together, the Bible and the Book of Mormon confound false doctrines, lay down contentions, and establish peace. (See 2 Ne. 3:12.)

C.S. Lewis on Moral Law

Scriptures say the lord wrote his moral law in our minds and in our hearts, thus we all know the moral law at least somewhat.

Freud says that children learn the morals through punishments and rewards

This makes me think of a bouncy ball bouncing back and forth between rewards and punishments, in this way the bouncy balls are kept in the limited bounds designed for them bouncing back and forth between the walls..

But what happens... In the case of children,when they realise these limits are really artificial walls created by their parents?

In the analogy of the bouncy ball they are guaranteed to bounce way off in left field and run a muck. Enjoying the freedom without bounds and lacking foundational knowledge about why it is good to choose to stay inside the limits.

The daunting task with raising children is no less then the Lords charge, teach them sound principals and let them govern themselves. Parenting this way takes allot more effort and thought, in order to do this a parent must awaken in the child a personal awareness of their own inner conscious, of the moral code written in their minds. The skill that such a task requires is daunting indeed.

Thankfully parenting is a three way contract between the Mom the Dad and the Lord. Thankfully the Lord gives us parents personal inspiration on how to fulfil such a large stewardship

In this analogy it is easy to see that we are Gods in training.

But there is an even better way of exploiting the trough; I mean through the patients own thoughts about it. As always, the first step is to keep knowledge out of his mind. Do not let him suspect the law of undulation. Coments on Screwtape Letter #8 Undulation

This is like the classic pride cycle you learn about in the Book of Mormon and high school Seminary.

The Nephits humble themselves and are favored of the Lord, then they become prosperous and blessed. Soon they become prideful, and sinful and need to be humbled by the lord... cycle repeats.

But more personal then that, this quote was the nugget of truth I was searching for.

I feel like truth brings happiness. When we humans suffer it is most often because we do not know, or are not living, some nugget of truth.

Thus when I feel I am suffering from some version of lack of truth, I start praying, pondering, and searching for the nugget of truth I am lacking.

This letter was that nugget of truth for Me.

Somewhere in the scriptures it says something like God gives men weaknesses to humble us. and that if we do humble ourselves and turn to the lord he will make our weaknesses become strong.

As I said in an earlier post titled ''Frozen ''my weakness is cleaning.

Recently I have fallen into a rut where I asked myself, why do I bother trying to over come this weakness it does not seam to be improving at all.

You know I did not quote enough from C.S. Lewis there was allot more golden truth then what was quoted earlier... let me go find it.

In Screwtape #9 (see my next post for quotes from this letter) we learn how Screwtape exploits the trough periods by keeping the "patient" focused on the pattern of troughs, So the "patient" believes that the low periods are the constant and the highs are only temporary changes from the constant low.

This trick has worked well on me with cleaning, thus I have greatly lacked in faith of improvement, each low period has been thought of as the standard.

With this cycle going I can see how, when the Lord moves back withdrawing his support, from me I feel desperate. OH NO here comes the standard reality of failure" I think. 'All faith is lost and I stumble.

Funny how this is such a simple concept for me to understand in other areas of my life, but with cleaning I just did not get it.

The trick, it would seams is to hold any claimed ground as much as possible when the Savior withdraws his support.

It is like changing the pattern from a roller coaster ride of up and down to a pattern of steps. During the good times capitalize on them and enjoy the improvements.During the troughs hold your claimed ground, ready to claim more ground during the next good cycle. This trick of holding the ground, doing what is right especially when it is hard. This changes the roller coaster pattern into one of continuous improvement.

I am going to try this theory out anyways, see if it Works...

1. I have a pet turkey. Yes she is a pet, and she loves to be petted. she was suppose to be thanksgiving dinner but "she is too sweet to butcher" Jeff's words.

2. I have a 14 lbs bucket of banana chips.
3. I picked up a rattlesnake in high school because I was showing off.
4. I am learning (Playing with) how to make soap.
5. Wow this is going to be hard I am already out of ideas... I was named after my mothers middle name.
6. My life long dream is to design and build my own sustainable home (somewhat like an earthship) on .5 acres of land or more.
7. because of # 6 I have at different time's tried to talk Jeff into living in a yurt, a shipping container a trailer... The Question of God: C.S. Lewis and Sigmund Freud Debate God, Love, Sex, and The Meaning of Life, By Dr. Armand M. Nicholi Jr.

Freud asserts that as children become adults, their sense of right and wrong comes simply from what they have been taught by their parents, that "their parents' prohibitions and demands persist within them as a moral conscience." Eventually they introduce this whole system of rewards and punishments "unaltered into their religion."

Lewis agrees that we learn the moral law, in part, form our parents and teachers, and that this helps develop our conscience. But this does not mean that the moral law is simply "a human invention." Lewis explains that our parents and teachers did not make up this law any more then they made up the multiplication tables which they also teach us. He points out that some of what our parents and teachers teach us "are mere conventions which might have been different -- we learn to keep to the left of the road, but it might just have been the rule to keep to the right -- and others of them, like mathematics, are real truths." Mores or customs change with time; morals and moral law hold firm.

Has no one ever told you about the law of Undulation?

Humans are amphibians -- half spirit and half animal... As spirits they belong to the eternal world, but as animals they inhabit time. This means that while their spirit can be directed to an eternal object, their bodies, passions, and imaginations are in continual change, for to be in time means to change. Their nearest approach to constancy, therefore, is undulation -- the repeated return to a level form which they repeatedly fall back, a series of troughs and peaks...

And that is where the troughs come in. You must have often wondered why the Enemy does not make more use of His power to be sensibly present to human souls in any degree He chooses and at any moment.... the creatures are to be one with Him, but yet themselves; merely to cancel them, or assimilate them, will not serve. He will set them off with communications of His presence which, though faint, seem great to them, with emotional sweetness, and easy conquest over temptation. Frozen Dessert

My son Curious George asked Santa to bring him a snow cone maker. Our family has really enjoyed this simple machine. We got the Hamilton Beach Snowman Ice Shaver, because it had the best reviews for the price. I have not been disappointed

Freeze juice for healthy yummy frozen treats

On Sunday we are having what Papa calls root bear sinks. Freeze milk to shave and pour cold root bear soda over that.

It will also shave frozen bananas and fruit.

Frozen yogurt works well also, almost, but not quite, like ice cream.

Do's and Don'ts of Chickens

Don't get the small feeders. Not worth the hassle. *COMMENT: When raising chicks the small feeders that have little holes for the chicks heads are a bad idea, including the mason jar ones. They will fill up at the bottom with grit and look to you like the chicks have food. But the chicks will still be starving because they don't want the remaining grit. Get one where they can scratch out the feed, this will allow them to get to the fresh feed and not just concentrate the grit.
Do get the extra large feeder it is worth the money, for the time and hassle it saves you.

Don't get the small non heated water bottles, you will just replace it anyways in the winter.
Do get the water jug that plugs in so the water does not freeze in the winter. *COMMENT: Now I prefer the larger waters that fill from the top, so much less hassle, and they are built more durable, they are less prone to break. The bottom fill ones can dry in the sun and the break when turned upside-down to refill. Instead you can buy a water heater to put under the waterers.

Don't buy heat lamps the always-on-light messes up the chicken daily cycle.
Do buy an Iguana tank warmer (at the pet store), no bothersome light, no hassle with bulb changes, only slightly warm, will not start a fire, heat rises, better use of energy. (I used mine all winter with hay beds on top, the birds loved it, and nothing even close to a fire started).

A Dog house does not work for a chicken house over the winter.
Do get Tekfoil to insulate your chicken tractor or winter home, it works great.
A Dog run works great for a chicken area.

Do buy your chickens presexed at IFA or a local feed store. Roosters crowing and butchering is no fun, and allot more work. (Your neighbors will hate the crowing!) *COMMENT: If you find a local classified listing for poultry it is fun to watch it and see the unique birds listed there. I have gotten to where I like docile breeds of roosters and want the more unique birds. Here we look at KSL.com classifieds. Maybe Craigslist in your area would also work.
Do free range your chickens*. This works great, I highly recommend it, They will happily run around your yard eating weeds, bugs and fertalising everything. With the added bonus of less mess to clean up in chicken house. Most likely your chickens will pick their favorite place to lay eggs, and lay most of them in the same spot. The rest of the eggs are fun for your kids to hunt. *COMMENT: This works great for a few chickens. The more chickens I get the more I want to tractor them so the eggs are easier to find.
Do block chickens from concrete slab or other places you don't want their poo. It is not fun to clean up afterwards.
Do buy lay mash* anything else produces less eggs (16% when warm, 20% when cold). *CORRECTION: I have found I prefer lay pellets. The Lay mash has grit mixed in it. My chickens have access to the out doors so they do not need grit mixed in with their food. And I don't want to pay for grit because I have it all over my yard.
Do plan on feeding a large number of wild birds, the chickens will get board of defending their food. Wild birds are smarter then chickens, any food the chickens can find so can the wild birds.
Do buy wild bird seed if it is cheaper and put it a distance from your lay mash, in hopes it deters the wild birds from eating the lay mash.
*ADDITION: Consider investing in a wild bird proof feeder, or netting your chickens in so the birds can not get into the food. The cost of chicken food can add up when you are feeding it to wild birds. Once th birds know you are a source of food you will end up feeding the whole county's wild bird population.
Don't wash any chicken dishes etc. inside* for salmanilla concerns. *CORRECTION: If you need to wash them inside in the winter do it in the bathtub and wash out the tub well.
Do feed your chickens your plant and grain table scraps, they will come running for them in anticipation.
Do Compost. Pick an area of the yard to compost in. Throw all your table scraps out there for the chickens to peck through. Add to your compost leaves and grass clippings, spread grass out thin to dry in the sun so it does not stink and clump.
Do involve your kids, farm animals are so much fun
Do learn how to butcher, you will need to know this even if you don't plan to do it much.
Don't get ducks unless you have a pond*. They require allot more water for cleaning, eating and drinking. *CORRECTION: I tried to make a duck pond. I spent over $500 and it failed miserably! The ducks ate all of the pond plants and mucked up the water with their poop. Duck ponds only work if you have a HUGE pond and enough money to pay to have them professionally installed. Instead use a wading pool, but dump the pool every 3 days, then leave it out in the sun to dry out for a day, in order to not breed mosquitoes.
Don't get a turkey to raise for thanksgiving if you are soft hearted, it will become a pet. My turkey lays more eggs then my chickens*. She lies down in the grass and quivers her feathers to let us know she wants to be pet. Everyone loves petting our pet turkey. *CORRECTION: As soon as she became broody she stopped laying eggs unless she could hide them and try to brood them.
*ADDITION: Don't get a Broad Breasted Turkey if you want to breed. The toms are too big to breed, and the females have a hard time brooding correctly. Get a heritage breed turkey.
Do get a female turkey if you have kids, they are more docile and friendly. A male turkey* will take over your yard and run your kids out of it. My rooster is bad enough for that, the kids need sticks to go back there, a male turkey would be allot worse. *CORRECTION: If you get a docile breed of turkey and a docile breed of Rooster and treat them well, you will have no problems. I love my Buff Orpington Rooster, and my Black Spanish Tom Turkey.

My thoughts on stumbeling blocks

There are two ways to go through life....

A. Taking life as it comes. This is a time of wading through, climbing over, walking around allot of stumbling blocks.

B. Building a mountain one stone at a time to climb higher out of the stumbling blocks and closer to the Lord.

This is my theory anyways.

The choice seems to be to take the stumbling blocks around you and stack them up so you can climb higher, build your mountain, to climb, up towards the Lord. But watch out the pile of stumbling blocks is ever rising trying to over take you.

Both paths are hard. The stumbling blocks are hard because of the constant fight for survival. The mountain is hard because of the effort required to build and climb it. Both are incredibly hard. But up on the mountain you can see further and your work and efforts are more effective.

Climbing up the mountain is a process of putting yourself in situations that are constantly new. So mistakes are a given. Climbing is a process of hit and miss and picking your self back up when you fall. The trick is to pick yourself back up and climb some more, make more mistakes, and keep going. Otherwise you choose to be surrounded by the stumbling blocks of maintaining status quoe.

There is no comfort zone in life. The Lord demands/wants perfection.

You can either be pushed up and wade through the treacherous sea of stumbling blocks, constantly struggling to stay on the top of them, and not fall down where they would bury you. Or you can stack the stumbling blocks up and climb to higher ground out of the rising tide. Either way you are moving upwards closer to the Lords planned perfection for you.

It seems the building and climbing option is faster, and more desirable, because when climbing high you can see farther.

Chicken composting

We keep our chickens in our dog run, so technically it is a chicken Run. Lol...

We are composting in the chicken run. Whenever w have extra food or leftovers that are not meat we "feed" it to our chickens, by placing it in our chicken run to compost. So there is allot of organic verioty composting in there. We also throw in the grass clippings. We spread them out in their so they will dry out and compost well. Because grass gets slimy and stinky if it is left in a pile. We also throw in leaves to compost.

This soil was quite rich at the start of winter, so it became quite muddy in there. We scattered hay over it and can now walk in there much better. We also are using straw and hay as bedding for the chickens.

I expect all of this to be a lovely mess of compost we can use in our planter beds come spring.

Stressed Chickens

About two months ago our neighbors dog had a fun time chasing the rooster and hens all around the back yard. He was just a little pup and thought it all was a load of fun. He got a mouthful of the roosters tail feathers a few times. Right after this our hens stopped laying any eggs.

This was also when the weather turned cold. I have heard stress can cause a hen to stop laying eggs. So either the cold or the dog stressed them and they stopped laying eggs.

We are having a warm spell right now and allot of the snow is thawing. My hens started laying eggs again. This is most likely because it has warmed up. But could also be because they have gotten over the stress of the dog attack.

Chicken Ladder, Ducks, and Hay

We got hay for the chickens and ducks for their bedding because they might enjoy the food Value there. But Were sceptical it would make any difference. It did the chickens and ducks are peaking at it and trying to eat it.

Our ducks wont use the chicken ladder we made, in order to get into their shelter. So I made a ramp out of straw, and they do use that. Only problem is the straw tends to get knocked down, and then the ducks can not get up the ramp.

Silly flightless birds. My chickens will fly and perch on top of my 6ft fence, and my ducks wont even hop. Go figure.

Jeff and I discussed kids as we were falling asleep.

Tumbelina- Avoide nagging her. This does not inspire her to do better

* This worked. When Hugs and Tumbelina were having a fight. I sat them down together and had one girl listen while the other girl talked, when girl A was done talking girl B had to repeat back to girl A what she said accurately enough that A agreed it was what she said. Then girl B got her turn to talk and girl A had to listen and accurately repeat back to girl B what she said.

Then each girl was challenged to think of one thing she could have done better. They then said sorry to the other girl for the one thing they did wrong.

This worked well for Tumbelina. Ari had a harder time with it.

Curious - "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."I am trying this bit of wisdom out on Curious.

After church today Curious took an empty pop bottle and started to play whack a mole on his sisters heads with it. I had Curious repeat this phrase several times and then asked him if he would like it if his sisters whacked him on the head with a sprite bottle. He said no of course, so I asked him if he thought his sisters liked being whacked. ''No ''he said.

"Then should you whack it your sisters on the head?" was my next question.

He said "no."

''Can you tell your sisters sorry then" I asked.

"Yes" he said.

This seemed to get through.

Angelic -I am working with Angelic on personal hygiene in preparation of her body maturing. Last night she showered and washed her hair. After words I got out the mouse and tought her how to scrunch and tease it into her hair. The results were better but it seems that we need to find a way to improve the results even still.

Hugs -I need to fix her iron deficiency. I need to get more white pills from Daves Nutrition, and help her get more iron. This should help her moods stableize allot more.

Webkinz Birthday Party ideas #2

1. Pup cakes- Instead of Birthday cake, make cup cakes. Decorate each one with a paw print. (Icing idea. Place Frosting in a zippy bag and cut off one corner. Use this to decorate the cup cakes.)

2. Mini Pup Cakes- Make mini cup cakes for your Webkinz animals.

3. Treasure hunt-buy prizes or treasures. Hide each prize in a "rock." Crumple up newspapper around each prize so it looks like a rock. Hide "rare" prizes in a different colored paper and tell guests they can only get one "rare" rock. Hide rocks or scatter rocks over the lawn for guests to race for.

4. Pin the W on your favorite Webkinz.

5. Tiger dogs-A unique food inspired by the food chef Gazpacho cooks. Cook hot dogs on the grill so they are striped like tigers. Have the chef wear a name tage that says Chef Gazpacho.

8.Prize ideas- Littlest Pet shop animals, or other small animals. Webkinz cards or card packs. Print out Webkinz bookmark image below.

7. Have invites say "bring your favorite stuffed animal."

8. Stuffed Animal Game- Have guests sit in a circle with their stuffed animal in their lap. Get the group repeating this pattern, Clap Clap snap Snap. Take turns going arround the circle saying your animals sound on the "snap snap'!

Now play a game of Memory. One person starts the game

by saying their own animals sound during the clap clap, then saying another players sound durring the snap snap. The new person then says their sound durring the clap clap and another players sound durring the snap snap. Repeat.

To make the game more advanced- each time a player messes up the players move to a new stuffed animal (stuffed animals stay in place). Players move one left if a boy messes up and two to the right if a girl messes up.

9. Duck Duck Goose is a great party game for younger kids.

10. Craft Idea-Make bow ties for the stuffed animals to dress up in. Hair bow for girl animals, a neck bow for boy animals.

(Make bow ties out of felt. cut a rectangle shape in felt gather it in the middle with thread sew on an elastic loop that stretches over the animals heads or around their necks. Guests can decorate felt bows with glitter glue pens, fabrick markers or other items.)

11. Fill out My Favorite Things paper about you and your stuffed animal.

Frozen

The truth is I am frozen somewhere between a midlife crisis and ... tried four times, and I could not put down and what.

Part of me says, after 3 miscarriages in a row, a house fire, two moves... you are just exhausted.

Part of me says, get over that, the fire was back in march 2007.

Maybe it is a matter of health, I stopped taking my meds for herbs, and now have stopped taking my herbs for... ?

Yes health is a factor for sure.

November 22nd 1996, I married my best friend, and jumped into married life with grand plans of homemaking. Twelve years later, homemaking on of my top occupations, and still I fail just as bad at it as I did 12 years ago.

Motherhood - ok I can do that, I like that, it has it moments, but I see successes in that area.

Homeschooling - good there also, joy and happiness are there, along with the moments.

Working at home - going well, a bit of a learning curve, but on a good trend.

Wife - Hum... Wow... I could do allot more there.

Homemaking - complete and utter fail.

Homemaking has been my #1 new years resolution since I was first married. 12 years later... utter fail. Little to no noticeable improvement, truly.

After the fire I finally could complete my plan. I had all that extra money I could spend on just the right organisers and stuff. I had my home done up pretty, decorated, and organised.

Then... I don't know what...

Was it miscarriage #3 that did me in?

My home was already starting to unravel before that, but I do believe I was still trying.

After miscarriage #3 all trying stopped. My attitude is why bother.

Could it be the adjustment of working at home....?

Yes... things did get worse then.

Could it be the discomfort of having my sister live her....? Yes

But what of those can I solve...

Health - My #1 enemy is my difficulty remembering things. If I take medication I forget to take it everyday and my dosage gets totally out of whack. If I take herbs they are more gentile and can weather the occasional forgetting, but eventually I am forgetting everyday anyways, or actively avoiding then through some strange sense for failure..... I think I need to schedule an appointment with Dave at Dave's Nutrition and discuss the memory problems.

Work - Wait until Jan 18th and you get the better schedule that will help allot.

Those are what I can change....

Then after that, how is anything I do in homemaking going to be anything different then all my attempts before that failed. I have read so many books, and tried so many new approaches. I am almost out of any new ideas.

I had a thought the other day about how I homeschool successfully. I homeschool through confidence in my own inspiration from the Lord. It is just that simple. I view raising my children as a three way contract between me and the Lord. I have total confidence he will provide me with the answers and resources I need to homeschool. Could I use this same method with homemaking?? I am sure I could, difference is this method came naturally to me with homeschooling, and with homemaking it will require faith. And I have very little to no faith in my homemaking. Maybe that is why it always fails, lack of faith.

Herbs and faith, those are the best answers I can come up with at this time.

My family LOVES Kidzui. This has become an essential tool in my family.

We homeschool our children and take and interest based approach. The main limiting factor in my family is keeping my kids time full of things that are interesting and educational to them. With Kidzui I can turn on the computer and let them go. I have the peace of mind in knowing that they will not be accessing anything objectionable. I also have the joy of walking in on them and seeing sneak peaks of what the are learning.

The other night when I checked in on my son he was learning which animals lived in the savanna. That experience reminded me of a few days ago when I walked in on my daughter learning about tornadoes. Of course it is not all learning.

My kids have discovered, through Kidzui, that they are fans of Hanna Montana. Which is a cute way for them to stay in touch with pop culture even when not in public school.

Yesterday I added Funbrain.com to all my kids favorites list and logged into one of the kids accounts and "mailed" funbrain to all of them. In this way they can stumble upon the webpages I want them to see. I love the feature of customizing webpages my kids can or can not access. This one option has endless possibilities. I

have also noticed that you have Kidzui Games, which is a great selection of games for young kids.
